Christi Boothe, Co–Owner of Satori
Christi, co–owner of Satori Day Spa & Salon, has known that she wanted to be a hair stylist since she was 5 years old and received her cosmetology license while still in high school. After 19 years in the beauty industry she has become much more than a hair stylist and has expanded her expertise into waxing, facials and body treatment services. She has a unique ability to communicate with clients about their needs and specializes in natural–looking foil highlights and amazing blow–outs. During her 19 year career, Christi has honed her skills as a business woman. Since first owning her own salon at the age of 18, she has continued to be passionately involved in the business aspect of the salon and spa industry.
Christi's innovative and groundbreaking ideas for Satori Day Spa & Salon stem from her witnessing a total stranger having a moment of total clarity...a moment of Satori. While in the Virgin Islands; she steps into a pottery shop to inquire about taking a class....only to be immediately told by the owner "I know the man...that you will marry....". Christi and her future husband spent some of the most relaxing moments of their lives sailing the Caribbean aboard a sail boat that belonged to the pottery shop owner, a sail boat named... Satori.
Lynette Grider, Co–Owner of Satori
Lynette, co–owner of Satori Day Spa & Salon, has had a passion for the beauty business since she was a child and would go to salons with her grandmother for her weekly appointments. Fortunately she discovered that she simply could not wait for adulthood to start her career and at the age of 13 started to cut hair on anyone who was willing to sit still and take a chance. Even after 24 years experience as a hair stylist and natural nail car technician, Lynette's passion and drive continue to grow. She loves exploring the latest techniques by attending educational classes on a regular basis; a desire that has been implemented as policy for all of the employees of Satori Day Spa & Salon. If it were up to Lynette, she'd spend her days creating new looks for all different textures of hair and designing the color that perfectly enhances it. Lynette is one of those rare people who doesn't let a single moment of Satori pass her by and says "I'm so grateful to have the opportunity to create the environment I've always wanted to work in. Side by side with my best friend Christi, Satori Day Spa & Salon is truly a dream come true."
Casey Cook, Customer Service Rep and Apprentice
Casey is our youngest Satori girl – Fresh out of cosmetology school, she displays a natural talent for making people look their best. Having recently completed her 1,000 hours while simultaneously completing her high school diploma, Casey has figured out at a young age the direction she would like her life to take. Casey is currently working as our receptionist and is planning on completing our apprenticeship program next year. In her spare time, Casey loves to cook, relax with friends, and watch films.
Jessica Cresswell, Nail Technician
Since receiving her training at TST BOCES nearly three years ago, Jessica is fast becoming our nail technician par excellence. A dedicated Nascar fan, this fun-loving Satori girl loves to have a good time both at work at out, and her friendly, outgoing demeanor makes her a welcome addition to our team. Jessica discovered at an early age that the beauty industry was the path she wanted to take; in a moment of Satori that occurred during her high school graduation, she realized she was an adult and fully in charge of her destiny. Go Jessica!
Jen Donnell, Esthetician
Our facialist, waxing and make–up specialist Jen Donnell experienced a moment of Satori when she realized that quitting her job so she could attend beauty school full time at Shear Ego in Rochester was one of the best decisions she has made. Since graduating in May 2007 and moving to Ithaca, the Watkins Glen native has quickly become an important addition to the Satori team. When she is not giving stellar treatments in the spa, this friendly Satori girl enjoys shopping and spending time with her dogs.
Alison Ferris, Massage Therapist
For massage therapist Alison, education is a lifelong process. Blending deep tissue and Swedish massage catered to each client's individual needs, she helps your body to access its healing intelligence. Though she graduated from the Finger Lakes School of Massage in 2003, she finds that each massage she gives offers the chance to learn something new – such as the realization that perfecting technique is not as important as genuinely caring for each client. Alison holds a BFA in dance performance from SUNY Purchase, and her passion for movement and the body carries over into her daily yoga practice. In addition to being a dedicated yoga practitioner, she also performs in a local dance/yoga troupe.
Alisha Houseworth, Stylist
Alisha received her cosmetology license from TST BOCES and since then has been working in the beauty business for nearly five years. She has furthered her education by attending several up–do classes as well as Goldwell color classes throughout her career. This commitment to education is most certainly reflected in her work. Although she does everything from hair to nails and waxing, Alisha's favorite clients are those open to new styles with "funky" colors. Due to her natural talent combined with her formal education she provides amazing up–do's. Also, despite working full time for Satori Day Spa & Salon and being a wife and a mother, Alisha somehow finds time to make jewelry for the salon which she is willing to customize for you. Though still considered young, Alisha's talent is like her wisdom: beyond her years.
Emily Jones, Spa Manager & Esthetician
Many of you may know Emily as our long–time General Manager, but recently she has taken on a new role at Satori as the Spa Manager & Esthetician. It was a hard decision to let Emily go as our General Manager, but after seeing her passion for the skin care industry and knowing her ability to excel at whatever she sets her mind to, it is clear that Emily has truly found her calling. The services she provides include facials, body treatments, waxing, and makeup. Since starting her new career in June, Emily has already brought in a new, gentler, waxing system (Escential Wax), new makeup products (Kiss Me Mascara), and improved the quality of our skin consultations & treatment options. She is excited about the opportunity to continue to improve the spa and is looking forward to adding services such as Glycolic Peels & Eyelash Extensions this coming season.
Demitra Karakantas, Stylist, Nail Technician, Waxing Specialist
If a funky new look is what youre after, Demitra Karakantas is your girl. With a knack for innovative cuts, color, foils and updos, Demitra is also talented at manicures, pedicures, waxes (lip, face, back and modest Brazilian bikini waxes) as well as childrens cuts. When she is not working with clients to develop their fresh new look, this Satori girl loves cooking gourmet meals and spending quality time with family and friends, or trying to capture nature through sketching and other artistic pursuits. Demitra inspires clients and coworkers alike with her contagious zest for life, a sign of her Greek heritage. Since finishing beauty school nearly four years ago at T-ST BOCES, Demitra has developed as much a reputation for her trendy cuts and colors as for her sparkling sense of humor she says her moment of Satori comes when she visits Lane Bryant on a shopping spree and has to ask for smaller sizes!
Lisa Knight, Stylist
Since her initial beauty school training at CM BOCES, Lisa has managed to perfect her skills as both a hair stylist and beauty technician. Throughout her 21 year career that has spanned from Ithaca to New York City; she has continuously attended educational classes, tradeshows and seminars and has worked the full spectrum of salon jobs from cuts to management. Of all of the services that Lisa offers; she particularly loves to do razor cuts and formal up–do's and she specializes in Asian hair styles and cuts. Lisa has no doubt that she has truly found her calling and says "I believe my life has been filled with moments of Satori; that along the way, have led me along the path of doing what I love and finding the perfect surroundings in which to expand and perfect my craft."
Tam Marion Lam, Waxing Specialist
Tam possesses a special appreciation for life and all of its beauties, making her well–placed in a career in the beauty industry. Since receiving her NY State license from Continental, our waxing specialist has spent the last seven years mastering the art of waxing. Facial and Brazilian waxes are her specialty, and Tam is constantly striving to continue educating herself on the latest trends, positioning her at the top of her craft. When she is not at work, her genuine appreciation for the simple things in life means she is usually enjoying healthy living, working out, reading or knitting. Having spent time living and traveling in Southeast Asia, this Satori girl is a true traveler at heart, and has discovered that her sense of enlightenment is renewed whenever she is exploring new and faraway places.
Jessica Mohr, Stylist
Jessica received her initial training at TST BOCES where she placed 2nd in the Senior Cosmetology Competition for Formal Up–do's. Since becoming a New York State licensed cosmetologist, she has continued to educate herself on the latest trends in the beauty business. She has attended several up–do classes, Goldwell color classes and has also received extensive training in skin care and facials. Despite the wide array of services she is able to offer: nails, waxing and facials; Jessica is a true hair stylist at heart and this is where her passion lies. Although she specializes in all hair services, her standouts are razor cuts, highlights and "artistic up–do's". It is Jessica's meticulous attention to detail that allows her to excel in these services and it is a trait which carries over into her manicures and pedicures which are impeccable.
Traci Wells, Massage Therapist
As a licensed massage therapist, Traci knows that her moment of Satori comes from helping others. While interning in a hospital recovery unit, she realized that she could contribute significantly to those who have undergone a traumatic event, and knew at once that this is what she wanted to do for the rest of her life. A firm believer that stress and pain do not have to be a constant battle, Traci is passionate about her role in helping and educating people to feel their best. A graduate from the Finger Lakes School of Massage (June '04) Traci's areas of expertise include deep tissue, hot stone, pregnancy and sports massage. This former theater major's spirited energy is positively contagious. When she is not at the spa, she enjoys volunteering in the local community, meeting new people, and spending quality time with friends and family.
